6.2.3. The Way Construction

The final construction that Goldberg presents involving directed motion is the Way Construction. It can be represented structurally as follows:

[SUBJi [V [POSSi way] OBL]
(Where V is a nonstative verb, and OBL codes a directional).

The construction is exemplified by sentences like the following:

(6.131) Frank dug his way out of the prison.

(6.132) Frank found his way to New York.

In (6.131) it is entailed that Frank moved through the created path out of prison. In (6.132) Frank managed to travel to New York.
