5.0. Introduction

In the preceding chapter, it was concluded that both languages make use of the same mechanisms, namely the verb and satellites to the verb, to express directed motion. The difference lies in the extent to which they use them. In this chapter and subsequent ones, the interaction between the semantics of the verb and the particular syntactic configuration in which it appears will be discussed. Two competing theories, the lexicalist or projectionist and the constructional, will be presented. Finally, a proposal to integrate the two will be put forth
